“Old Salt” is the nickname for the US Navy’s oldest “Supercarrier” in service today, CVN 68 USS Nimitz.  “Old Salt” is also the title of Russell Recchion’s first ever aircraft carrier oil painting being released as limited series fine art prints! 

Recchion’s original oil painting on canvas, 20” x 30,” of USS Nimitz is masterfully rendered in beautiful blues, grays, purples and teals hues, accurately depicting the tremendous mass of a 100,000 tons American aircraft carrier at sea.   More than just the world's largest class of military combatant warships, Nimitz is also a “floating city” with an accompaniment of as much as 5,500 service men and women serving on board.

About the Artist

Russell Recchion is a master portrait artist who lives in Tucson Arizona. His paintings can be found in collections in Europe and across the United States. He has painted professionally for more than 30 years

The versatility of Russell Recchion’s talent has enabled him to create a brand-new series of Naval Aviation Art as he continues to win awards with his portrait work.  When asked what drew him to paint the U.S. Navy aircraft carrier Nimitz, Russ replied, “As an artist, what attracted me to paint the USS Nimitz was the unique and dynamic perspective of this massive ship as it steams towards the viewer. I love the action of the waves and the color changes in the water. I also like the contrast between the exactness and engineered precision in the details of the ship to the looseness and freedom of brush strokes in the action of the sea.” 

The combination of Russ’s dedication to detail and his bold use of colors brings to life on canvas the naval spirit that cannot be expressed through words.
