THE PHOTO
“Star Wars on Earth” was taken by famed F-14 Tomcat Pilot C.J. “Heater” Heatley III. According to Hollywood producer Jerry Bruckheimer, when he happened upon this photo in a magazine article in his dentist office, he exclaimed to his business partner Don Simpson, "This looks like Star Wars on Earth, this is our next movie!"
The photo was also the cover of Heatley’s wildly successful book, “The Cutting Edge,” selling over 500,000 copies.
THE PAINTING
Artist Russell Recchion, working closely with Heater for over a year, was granted “artistic license” to transform this iconic photo to a masterful, realistic work of art, including authentic details visualized by Heatley.
“Star Wars on Earth” is the fourth painting of Russ Recchion’s Naval Aviation Collection and the first of the legendary Navy F-14 Tomcat.
THE ARTIST
Russell Recchion’s paintings can be found in collections in Europe and across the United States. He has painted professionally for more than 30 years.
